The King tells about the British empire during the reign of King Henry V, who at that time got opposition from his own family when there was a war against Scotland. King Henry’s nephew, Harry Percy, blamed the King for not wanting to bid on British captives held by Scotland. But instead, he wanted Scottish prisoners to be immediately handed over to him. The incident sparked a feud between King Henry and Harry Percy which led to a civil war.
With unhealthy conditions, King Henry ordered his second son, Thomas to lead the battle, while his eldest son, Hal (Timothee Chalamet), was not involved because Hal had not lived in the palace for a long time. He lives with a veteran soldier, Falstaff (Joel Edgerton) because Hal does not agree with his father’s government system. When Hal was summoned before the battle, he forced his younger brother not to fight until finally, Hal had to come to the battlefield and advised him to fight without soldiers. Hal and Harry start fighting until finally, Hal kills Harry.
The period of the 15th century was indeed a time when there was a struggle for power and territory, so that war was inevitable. This film presents a very slick battle, accompanied by brilliant tactics that make the film feel very interesting. Good picture taking, making the atmosphere of war so felt.
This drama is also able to build anger with complex and multi-layered conflict. The appearance of Robert Pattinson in this film really makes the view, he can act humorously but can also show a shitty side. Timothee Chalamet himself played very well, his face smothering in confusion but at the same time, he had to be able to become a dependable leader.
